Default driving/fog lights for C3??

Want to add a set behind the front grills. Cibie used to make great ones years ago. Any suggestions on where to start looking. If you haven't used good ones they are great. It's almost impossible to over drive them. Good ones should go out a 1000 feet.
Not sure if behind the grill will work? Too much heat on grill. To much blockage of lights?

I had a pair of Blazer projector beams lights and they worked great. I mounted them to the lower valance.

There is another guy on here who had a 78 or 79, white or off white as I recall, that did a project like this. He had some really good pictures that showed his lights behind the grills. It looked very well done. I tried to do a search to see if I could find it but to no avail. Maybe he will chime in here and show you his good work.

Paul67 had a nice set up on his old 79. Perhaps you should contact him and do a search.

These are Hella lamps. They do not damage the grilles. I set them up as daytime running lamps (DRLs) as the front end of a C3 is pretty low profile to oncoming traffic on two-lane roads. I would not use them at night as they are very bright.

Paul, I'm following your lead. In fact, my Hella 1500s came just today. They look nice, can't wait to get them in. :hurray:

I just pull the little headlight switch out half way to put on the parking lights.

Cookwithvette,
I would urge you to ignore the Hella instructions to tap into your main headlight wiring harness. That is for European light-management regulatory reasons. I did not wish to touch the stock wiring and built a separate fused circuit linked to a 30-amp ignition-switched source in the fuse box. In the 1979 it was for the auxiliary electrical cooling fan that most later model Sharks do not have. So that terminal is vacant. The ground is the normal headlight wiring to the radiator shroud. I further added a high-amperage toggle switch under the dash in order to have the option of on or off beyond ignition switching. In other words I wanted to leave the driving lights off if need be such as in slow, city driving where those lights are not necessary.

The underlying premise of what might seem like a Bubba approach is that the lights and all wiring can be pulled out in about 15 minutes and the car will revert to stock without any electrical or major cosmetic injuries. The exception will be the four holes drilled in the vertical grilles brackets where the lamps are mounted. But those are barely noticeable.

I wish you well with your project!

Paul67,
Thanks, that's sound advice. I've never really liked those scotch-loc taps... don't seem like a very elegant solution. I'm running a power distribution terminal for all my electric add-ons. I plan on using a relay and running the grounding (trigger) wire to a small switch in the cockpit, that way I only have one wire to work inside. Right now I only have two switches, fans and lights, so I'm going to try to fit both in a plate where the ashtray cup sits now.

Thanks again. Take care!
