Default Have I lost my mind?

After much thought I allowed my teenage son to drive the vette in his senior parade for his last day of high school. The cars mechanically sound with all systems go and we went through some pre-test drives and operating checks.
He's been a good kid thats never gave his mom and I any trouble. He'll drive to school, join up in the parade and then have a senior breakfast. Should take about 2 hours and then back home. I sit here waiting patient, anxious, nervous, happy, proud and a little sad. Our boy has grown up.

I did the same thing with my son (who's 23 now). If they respect the car while growing up, they will respect it while driving it. (thank god my daughter can't drive a stick)  :steering:

I let my nephew take the '80 after he got back from Iraq...he was just shakin' as he took the keys and swore he wouldn't need to have sex for a week after he got back (I'm pretty sure he was bs'n about that part)...

My dad let me drive his 74 once in a while when I was 17.
The result was that I learned to respect and love C3s.
I now own that same C3 coupe. I guess it made a lasting first impression on me.

Good for you. Your boy will only be this age once. This moment in time will only happen once. Let us know how it turns out. Charles

Yur doin jus fine. This is my first time contributing to Forum though I been a reader for couple a years now. My two boys n I all get a real kick outta drivin our 74. It spent the first 10 mos up on blocks in the garage n gotta long way to go. I won't never forget the mix of emotions as they drove up the street the first few times but now it jus makes me feel proud all over...Congratulations!

Whew! He and the car made it back home, safe and sound! He had a grin on his face from ear to ear! He thanked his dear ole Dad, and now he's off on a canoe trip with some of his friends. Youth! don't ya just love it! That makes one down and one to go. My other boy is 13 so I got awhile to recuperate.

Thanks for all the comments and support. I know, you know, how we feel about all of our pride and joys.

To make you feel better, my son will be 16 in August and is a car and Vet nut. Took him to Barrett Jackson this year, and he thought I should get him one of the cars out of the Callaway collection that were for sale (nice try). Anyway we are looking at a 69 for him that needs some work. He is a great kid does well in school, his goal is to go into Car design for a career and plans on being the next head of the Corvette program for Chevrolet. My thought is he appreciates the cars so much and will have a lot of time invested in it that he will be extra careful when he drives. Other plus is only one passenger at a time and no BACK SEAT!

Was he the son that referred to the '68 as "Dad's old hunk of junk" while you were restoring it? I bet he's taken those words back in a big way!

If he's been a good kid, he deserves to be rewarded--even if it cost dad a couple of anxious hours. Good for him AND you, Bryan!!

My oldest boy has a couple of years yet before he starts driving. Then my anxious moments begin.

Eric,
Thats the one! He been kinda leading up to for awhile now. I finally gave in.
He has been a good kid. He took autobody and painted my truck for me. He did a pretty good job for his first try.

I usually tell my boys (8 and 9) that they will be driving my vette ....
when I'm dead !!

Funny - They've been looking up websites on Patricide.

Honestly .. I hope to be in your shoes and anxiously awaiting the return of MY vette.
If they want more 'vette time', tehy will have to fix up their own (with my help).

:seeya

It’s just starting! You are in real trouble now. I have or should say had a 92 Dodge Stealth. I let my daughter use it on a special occasion once and 2 years latter Im asking her if I can drive it
