Default Another frame stiffening and foam question.

Okay all, I know there are a lot of threads out there on this topic already, and i did do a search, but i didnt exactly find what i wanted. On the front frame, I understand about welding the skips on the a-arm brackets on the top side. But, I thought i read where somebody installed gussets on the a-arm brackets. Is there a pic of this, or a good description?

Also, what kind of foam has anybody used to fill the frame with? Where purchased etc..

Sorry for the renduncy.

Matt

Don't do the foam thing. There's no way to keep water from entering a C3's frame 100%. And if the least little bit gets in there, that foam could hold onto it indefinitely.

Here are a couple of my posts on this ... home server is kinda slow ... be patient or "show picture" for red Xs.

I posted pictures in a few sections of this post ... scroll down for more in here:

This is more towards the end of frame work:

This picture is from the second thread above. It shows the front jack plate
that I installed. Note full welds down the side of each lower bracket,
gussets on each side at the rear of the bracket, one gusset going from the
front of the lower bracket to the horn, and a vertical piece to help box in the
horn at the sway bar bracket area.

I used a length of 2"x1/8" steel to make all the gussets (available at most hardware stores/Home Depot).

click it to go "Biggie Size"

here's some pics of what I did, gussets on the lower arm mouts and in the front of the motor mouts, the last pic is a partially boxed up frame horn so it doesn't flex under load (swaybar) but it's not completely finished yet.

Those all look really good! Very good jobs on the gussets. Thanks for the pics and info, this really clears it all up. The frame is in the driveway now, and i have all the bolts loose on the front susepnsion, i just need to drop it all out, and start my frame work!

I need to take some pics of ol' project '69, and put them on a website. Its such a basket case!

Thanks,

MAtt
