Big Block header owners, straight, or angled plug wires?
I need to buy some new wires on my BB. I'm runing Hooker side mounts and currently have 90degree plug boots. Some of the wires are hitting the tubes and I'm afraid they will arc. What boots are you running? Straight, 90degree, or 180degree plug wires??
Also anyone run the Accel 9000 ceramic coated wires?
Thanks :D

Corey, I have had 180, 90, and 45 degree angle wires on my 71. Some would fit well on some cylinders but not others. Melted every set. MSD makes a variable boot plug wire that is high quality, pre made, and very easy to install. You just bend the boot to the desired angle with your hands and your done. I highly recommend them.

Doesn't Jacobs Electronics make plug wires with ceramic boots? I would think that would solve the problem. Not sure of the quality of the wires though.

Im running straight boots but I made my extractors so there was clearance for all plugs and boots. The steering shaft goes through the driver side pipes as well coz there is not much room on the right of the motor.

Corey,
I went throught 2 sets of MSD wires before going to the Jacobs ceramics. The MSD are much better wires, but the ceramic boots from Jacobs were the key. You can buy the ceramic ends from Jacobs and fit to the MSD wires. The metal clip ends on the Jacobs are shorter than the clips MSD uses for the spark plugs. Get the shorter Jacobs clips too, and make sure you put the boots on first before the clips.

Corey,
Go look around on Ebay for a couple of cheap heat shields.
I use heat shields on two plugs only with the MSD wires.
You see them every now and again for a few dollars a piece.
The other options are :1)header wrap
2)Seperate plug boots
They make things look less neat, but do work well!
Heat shields are the way to go!!

The '87 engine I'm using for my build had these funky looking heat shield on all the plugs. From the sounds of things I wish I hadn't thrown them in the trash.

They can save you a lot of frustration, those shields!
I used everything else and hated the look in the engine.
Came across a couple of those and.... :D :D

Hi
I have the same problem on my 68 BB with the HOOKER side exhausts.
1st and 2nd cylinder on the drivers side don't have enough clearance between the header and the boots.
If you find the solution, let me know.
I heard of shorter ignitor plugs. This could give some more clearance.
What type plugs are this ? Wich once do I need for my BB ?
Thanks. Gunther

Hey Corey, I tracked these down at a couple Chevy dealers #465840 these are exactly what I removed from that '87 BB. $1.59 for a pack of 5. Why 5???
