Axle yoke question, rebuild? hardened?
I have a 72 rear diff that needs new axle yokes. I have seen "rebuilt" yokes and new yokes that are hardened. The rebuilt are $90 and the hardened new are $230 (Paragon). Anyone know what's best (for the lest money)?
Also, what is the difference between HD yokes and others? I have seen a couple of part #s for these yokes. Mine are 3872023 and I have seen 3872922. Are these interchangeable?

Use the $65 rebuilt yokes from Muskegon. I like to use the strap & bolt type vs the U-bolt type. I have used several sets over the past year.

The HD yokes use bolts and caps. The standard yokes use a U-bolt. They are interchangeable as far as fit in the differential, but you would need either caps or u-bolts if you switch from one to the other. I would buy the rebuilt yokes, the wear occurs on the end beyond the circlip, and they replace the end with a hardened one, better then the non-hardened originals and should serve you well as long as routine maintenance is done.
