2nd chance on this 68 vert.
Woke up this morning, checked the local classified adds. I found out that the guy who bought this 68 vert a couple of weeks ago for 10K is now
trying to sell it. He is now asking 13,900. He said he was going to restore
the car but now he has to leave the islands. I am on my way now to
look at it. Pics are on this link

could be just someone trying to make quick money. I hate that type of person.
if it were me i wouldn't offer him more than 500 more than he paid.

if he really "has to leave the islands" then he should be a motivated seller and should be happy to break even on the car. I suspect he is motivated to make a few grand. Nothing wrong with that, but I wouldn't be too anxious to help him out on that score. MJ

OK, just got back and heres the story. The pics that the original owner sent me are old pics. There is now a pretty good size scrap on the driver's side hood. Looks like someone popped the clutch at a stop and Vette went under something like a 4X4, also numerous good sized chips in the paint. Motor was dirty and had some small oil leaks. Idle seemed high 1,100. Transmission seemed tight but sometimes I could hear something clunking in the rear at start off. All in all the car is in pretty good condition for a 68. I swear I could not find any rust! Even checked the underside of the bumpers. Door jams were clean, no holes. The new owner told me that he bought the car for his 'friend' on the mainland who wanted it shipped to him but he backed out of the deal, now he is stuck with it but he wants 13,900. Even at that price it is a good starting point for someone who really wants to fix up a 68 as it does not need to be restored. It is more work then I want to attempt. I would rather save up another $10k and try to buy something that needs less work for around $20k. Also, the new owner told me that he is leaving the islands for some 'work' in Europe. Funny thing is that he looks like he may be related to some 'hi-jacker' type people, it was a little bit werid.

Is that a stock oil fill on a hi-rise aftermarket manifold?? Loos like a power steering conversion. Pumkin looks differnet for some reason.

Re: 2nd chance on this 68 vert. (DMONSVETTE)
I had a guy buy a car from me a few years back. After bargaining down the price of the car by a few hundred bucks he asks me if I could have the sway bar bushings replaced (they were dry rotted and would make a little noise when the car passed over bumps) and THEN he asks me NOT to sign the title when he picks the car up. "Yeah, right." I'm thinking as I took his cash. I suspected something was up with him but didn't realize what it was until I saw my car advertized in the paper for $1000 more than he paid me for it a couple of weeks later. Then it dawned on me why he wanted the title unsigned; he wanted to re-sell the car all along and wanted to skip paying the state sales tax by signing over the title to "his" new buyer by forging my signature.
Of course I didn't fall for it because I didn't want to assume liability for the car after it left my hands so I signed the title anyway and I didn't bother with the sway bar, I just handed him the parts (that I already had). What a SCREW this guy ended up being and what nerve! I doubt that he made a dime on the car but I felt like a :_dupe: just for dealing with him. I just want to go take a shower now after thinking about it.
There's something incredibly fishy about this deal. Run away fast!! There's better cars out there. It was a so-so deal at $10K (considering all the mods and damage), he's dreaming at $14K.
