Apocolips

I just completed rebuilding my distributor and carburetor, (Qjet). The engine started right up without any problems. When I began to drive, and accelerated slowly it ran smooth and normal, but when I accelerated rapidly or stomped on it the engine would bog down and even back fire out of the carb. It cruises very smooth and as long as I accelerate slowly I can get to full throttle without it bogging down. However, it doesn’t seem to have the power that a 350/300 should have at full throttle. Any suggestions? Thanks

I would start with vac advance setup and check for leaks then timing.

First, be sure that your accelerator pump give 2 squirts of gas into the primaries when you flip the throttle. A newly rebuilt pump will take some time to seal properly. The cup of the pump as to be in the gas to inflate and seal.

After that, the secondary air flap spring as to be adjust. On the passenger side, there is a spring on the shaft of the air flap with an allen screw. Take a little mirror to see under there. The spring must be adjust to 3/4 of a turn after contact.

Go to http://www.corvettefaq.com Find lars Q-jet tunning paper and read up on the adjustments available to you on the Q jet. The problem you are having sounds like a secondary air valve problem.

I had very similar symptoms once, and after a careful analysis and system diagnosis (that's what I call lifting the hood and looking around) I observed that my #3 sparkplug wire was not connected to the spark plug! After reinstalling the boot car ran fine! :) Not that your problem will be quite as obvious, but you should check your wires to make sure all 8 cylinders are getting spark. :)
