Default Carbon build up

I tried a high speed pass yesterday on the highway and had the typical black smoke when WOT and slowed down when approaching 550RPM. Upon geting home all was well no smoke, just running great. Last time I did that with the old 77 it started smoking blue on cold start and had to replace the valve seals. Went out again and tried it to 5700 RPM @ 110MPH and no smoke (3.70 rear). I think it was a matter of carbon deposts. I've heard people speak of valve float at high RPM but it doens't appear I had that. Any ideas aside from carbon deposit.

P.S. I'm really stoked about this engine. Put over 2000 miles on her since purchased and all I've done was replace points w/P2, replace rear main seal, oil pan gaskets and tune/time her. Starts up first turn of the key with no pedal action and even in rush hour traffic never overheats. Knock on wood.

happens a lot on cars driven by little old ladies.

sounds like it just needed to be blown out.

Even in the morning when the car has sat overnight?

Yeah there's some sort of Bubba check valve in the fuel line just prior to the fuel filter so it starts up with no pedal action. Now if it has been in traffic all day and I immediately restart every once in a while there may be vapor lock, happended twice but she still fired over.

327's were one of the best motor's built.
With a 6.0" rod you get a killer rod-length-to-stroke ratio of 1.84:1
