Default Intake and Hood Clearance

Does an Edelbrock Performer RPM fit under a stock 79L82 Hood?
The Performer EPS should, right?

Holley 650dp is the carb that I have. (I don't know if that makes a difference)

thanks,

I don't think it will fit.

I ran an airgap under my stock hood with a 750 D.P and a drop base moroso air cleaner with a 3 in filter.

From other posts in the past month or so, your choices may fit with a drop base air cleaner and slightly thinner air cleaner. Even with that it's kind of a close fit. Search the archives, I know this has been addressed. I have a 79 also and I'm probably going to replace the hood for additional clearance and go with the Performer RPM.

Good Luck

EPS with a 3" drop base & 750 Holly fits just fine. Am running it on my 77 and have 1.5" of hood clearance with hood insulation.

If you use the right drop base air cleaner assembly all the manifolds will fit shy of a tunnel ram

I have a Victor Jr. intake and I am runnning a 1/2 inch NOS plate under the carb, I use a drop base assembly and K&N Extreme top with 14 x 2/14 " filter. :D

It'll fit easily.. You can either go with the expensive solution (2 inch drop base and 3 inch filter) or do what I did (I fit a Victor Jr. + 1/2 inch spacer under the stock hood).. 1 1/4 inch drop base (as found on Holley 14" air filters as they can be found at Advance Auto Parts) and add a 2 1/4 inch K&N filter..

The Brodix HVH 1016 dual plane intake will run right with a Performer RPM on a manual transmission car. The HVH 1016 has about an inch less height than the edelbrock but, most of the plenum divider is "missing" so I would be wary of running one on a automatic transmission Vette unless you putt a loose torque convertor in it (but then again, I don't drive Vettes with auto transmissions!) I have a used HVH 1016 that could be bought for $135 (theyr'e around $225 new.) I can Email pictures if your'e interested.

The 73-79 med. rise hood allows the Victor Jr, RPM & others w/ aftermarket dropbase & Holley.

Excellent!
Are the AirGaps higher than the regular RPM's?
Are the AirGap EPS's higher than the regular EPS's?

Thanks!

Bump.
What about the height of the air gaps vs. the regulars?

air gaps are only about an inch taller than regulars, if you want an air gap, get an air gap, the worst thing that can happen is you end up buying a dropped air cleaner to go along with it.

not to get off track, anyone know if a Performer RPM intake will fit under a stock big block hood (not L88)?

Yes, it will fit. I have the RPM and stock Q-jet. You will need a drop base filter and possibly a flat top lid.

As for your question about height, there is almost no difference in height of the RPM and the RPM Air Gap. Also, the Performer Air Gap is close to the same height as the RPM manifold, meaning that the Air Gap is taller than the standard Performer manifold. Clear as mud?

Performer Air-Gap & EPS about 1/4" taller than Performer 2101.
RPM & RPM Air-Gap are same height (.7" taller than Performer).
