How much would it cost to replace my car?
I am trying to determine how much to insure my car for. I know it isn't worth what I have out into it. I have over 50k into it!! :U
But if it were stolen or totaled I would want a suitable replacement.
You can look at my signiture for what mods I have done. but basically-
machanically: the car is near perfect. another $3000 and it will be as good as possible.
Interior is almost perfect- new carpet would make it perfect.
Exterior needs work. it would need 10k in body and paint to be perfect. But as you can see in the picture it is nothing to be ashamed of.
There is no rust to speak of.
If the car needed to be replaced I would settle for stock replacement that is in VERY good condition. ie- recent engine rebuild, clean like new interior, nearly perfect body and paint.
or- A car like mine that has been properly modified. A good solid engine, new 5-speed transmission, all new or perfect condition suspension components, tight steering.
I would guess that $35,000 would be a good amount to insure for. But I got a quote for nearly $1500 per year for agreed value insurance! Collector insurance is not appropriate for me because I like to drive the car more often than they like. I don't know why they boast unlimited miles.
EDIT: Never mind after asking a hundred time and always being reasured that it was "Agreed Value" It turns out it wasn't.
In all honesty how much should I insure the car for?
thanks,
~Jay

I have had mine insured for 25K for about 8 years now. You have a little more in yours than mine but 35K certainly would not be unreasonable. Just make sure they agree on the 35K also. I might have to raise mine a little.

Jay,
Looking at previous NCRS driveline ads, I've seen a top flight '68 tri-power 427/435hp vert with an asking price of $41k, and a '71 LS-5 vert with an asking price of $35k. I'd say that $30k is a good point to insure at in order to cover you for reasonable replacement value.

thanks for the info.
I think an NCRS top flight would be a suitable replacement ;)
The difference between 35k an 30k agreed value is very small, so I think I will go ahead with the 35k.
But 1500 a year is pretty bad! EDIT: as I said above, it isn't even "agreed value, just "stated"
