Default Who knows how to "break in to" a 1970 Corvette?

Last September I moved, and my '70 was left at my dad's house, safely locked away in the garage. Fast forward to now, and it seems that in the move I have lost the keys :cry

So, I need to know what the best way to get into the car is. Please email or IM me if you have any ideas

Thanks

I agree with the locksmith approach. Most companies have vans and will come right to your car.

:iagree: with Paul, but why didn't you make any spares? I have 3 sets for my car. Good Luck with that!

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

But in my defense, I do have spare sets for cars I don't own anymore

Thanks everyone, I was figuring a locksmith would be the safest way forward...

Use a coat hanger and pup the rear window latches, then crawl through!

Seriously, it's about the only way.

Make a loop on one end of the hanger and snag the window latch....

Either that or a good locksmith, if he shows up with a slimjim laugh at him

:iagree:
If you slimjim it, you will tear up your window rubber. Here is what I posted last year, right after I bought my '70

Door lock horror story....
I took my new 70 to work for the first time yesterday. Dumb butt that I am, I locked it up tight without trying the locks. Guess what? They don't work! So I am totally screwed. What am I to do? Call AAA and have them *&%$ up the door rubber with a slim jim, just to find out they can't get it open anyway? My T-top rubber is shabby; I decide to go at it with a coat hanger. A frustrating hour later I realize I can't budge the interior lock ****. PLAN B: I get to work on the rear window latches. Those suckers lock tight! A half hour later, I manage to open the left one. By this time, I've got a frickin' audience offering advice and snickering under their breath. It takes me another hour to pop the right one. Believe me when I say that I am in a foul mood as I wiggle my butt through the back window. Try THAT at home without a audience, now openly laughing their asses off. I either need to fix my locks or carry a hammer.

No bricks. NO slim jim.

Take your VIN, ID, and Title to your local GM dealer and have the parts dept order you up a set of keys.

May run you $20 or so (don't know for sure) but you won't end up with any scratchs on the car or have to replace the ignition.

even if you slim jim in you would have to hot wire it to move it then buy all new door locks and ignition key. Too much work.

Call up your GM dealer and see what they can do to order a key.

D'OH!!! Soory to hear that Bill... That's what you get for ignoring her for so long. These old girls get jealous when you spend too much time with the new ones. ;)

Hope you find a way to get in. I dunno if the dealer can make keys for a 35 year old car. With GM's record keeping system the way that it was, that stuff was probably tossed out 2 years after the car was made.

I have to believe that one who has so far posted has ever worked on the door or window mechanisims of their 68-82 Vettes. Chevy in all it's wisdom and because of the high theft incidences of the Corvette, placed a plastic "shroud" over the locking linkages of the C3 Vettes (I don't know if all of them had them but a 1970 would have them.) The best way would be to "pop" the T-tops with a thick piece of metal rod or sometimes if they are loose in adjustment, you can pound the T-top with your hand or an impact mallet (protecting the paint of course) and get the latches to pop. You can also try the really long metal rod approach to reach across the car to the opposite side door and open the inside door lock. I have never tried the rear window latch trick someone described but that may work also, then after the weather stripping is destroyed, make a duplicate set of keys. Sorry to hear about your problem, I'm off to the local Ace hardware store to make another set of keys!

Last year I had my door key break and fall off my king ring inside the car on my way out. :banghead: Called the cops to help. Tried to slim jim the door but that was damn near impossible. He had another tool in the bag that I was able to undo the top latches after pulling the door glass out some. :leaving:

My mom recently managed to lock both her keys in her car adn the locksmith came out with some rubber coated tools that are nothing more than a facy catchnger, but ther was no damage to the car.

I know a mechanic who has a set of "keys" that he can use to get into just about any kind of car that has regular flat style keys. He has successfully used them to get into my old F150, my 'vette, and my boss' Avalon.
