hey guys, how much do u think it would cost for a new paint job on 77 vette?
to be stripped, then primed and painted?

im hearin different things from everyone so im just trying to get a rough idea

depending on whats' underneath.. and how crazy you wanna go with paint. (doors off, interior out.. everything ripped out and painted piece by piece)

could run from 3500-15000 bucks.

I got an estimate when mine was white.. lookin at 8 grand and my car was in average condition bodywise

3000-6000 without stripping.

I rented space in a body shop, did all the work myself and still cost me 1200.00 by the time i was finished

i changed my color from white to blue so i had to remove doors, hood and such. if the original paint is good (not likely on a '77) you can remove the glaze of the paint and shoot new. i sanded mine down to the glass and used the new primers. spray it on, sand it off, spray it on sand it off until you get a smooth surface. there are many posts that have been on here for painting a Vette. check the archives and see what comes up. there are also a lot of books out there for painting Vettes. Are you looking at a '77 now?

Shop around you can get one for $2,000. I even got mine painted for $1,000 in California, but the guy also painted 2 other cars I had before that. I just got an estimate of $2,500 in Georgia to have mine done again. The last time I got it painted was in 94.

with paint you pretty much get what you pay for... it's lots and lots of labor. I can show you what happend to my $2k paint job 4 years after it was done(paint cracking/peeling and falling off, due to improper prep).

i got a quote for 6k at the least to get it done right from a shop i trust.

I plan on doing all the sanding and get the body as straight as I can, then get a professional to make it truly straight and to paint it. But the paint is good enough for a few more years.

Had mine painted last year for $5k, there was no body work needed just stripping down, removing bumper caps, side mirrors...did not include door jambs.

If your trying to determine how much it's going to cost to fix it up that could be a bottomless pit, especially if you visit this forum on a regular basis :D

I went through this last year....I found out that it all depends on what part of the country you live in. Here is Illinois metro Chicago area....your gonna PAY with your firstborn child and the deed to your house!!! Down south and in the southwest...it's cheaper. West coast is outragous like here.

Depends on the guy doing the work....how much he thinks his labor is worth. Everyone has a different labor rate.

about five grand was what i was quoted, that is why i did it myself. but not many shops will let you use their facilities.

plan on paying 4-6k for a good street paint job. If you want a show paint job about 10k.

Hi there! I looked at that same car (hello to Mark again). The car drives great but as the owner told you the paint is icky. One side door needs some work. I think you have to plan to do the sanding work yourself or else you will get killed on labor.

The local tech school near us has a body shop. They offer a body work course at night for cheap. Its like $400 for a 6 week course, 2 nights a week. You can go to class and work on your own car. They also take cars in september and the students will paint it as a project. Maybe you can find a local school like that. They just charge for materials.
