Overheating????????
Installed Dewalt rad and Spal fans this spring. Test driving on a 69 degree day at highway speed car runs over 220 degrees. No problem driving around town. Slow steady rising temp at 70 mph and cools back to 180 after about 2 miles of low speed driving.
How do I check accuraticy of stock gage in a 79.
Any ideas........

Re: Overheating???????? (toyvet1)
I just installed a Be cool with dual spals and my gauge reads high too.
The temp sensor turns the fans on at 195 and off at 175 and this is working great, but the gauge reads 20 degrees high. fans turn on at 215 according to the gauge. I know this doesn't answer your question but at least you know your not alone.

Think I'll get a digital infered temp gauge and check the temp of the radiator and a couple of other spots. Maybe replace the sending unit. I think the car may be running hot by how much the fans are running. I'll get a temp gun tomorrow and see what happens ....

I have seen other posts simular to this. Most people say that replacement sensors are not accurate and the the best ones come from Lectric Limited. I think that they are only $30 or so.

Have ya thought about going to a local auto parts store to get an aftermarket guage and slaving it in to see if it is the guage?

Got a infrared temp gun today. At the thermostat housing in the manifold shows Spal fans on at 188 off at 179. Unplug the fans and let it heat up to 220 at the gauge, temp gun reads 215. So sending unit and gauge are close. I'll change the water pump in the morning. It's the last thing I can think of.
New DeWitt radiator, spal fans, 190 thermostat, all new hoses, 15lb cap..... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
