Rally wheels for a '72?
Hi Guys,
I recently bought a '72 Stringray which came with a set of Firestone WIDE-OVAL bias ply tires on it. I would like to keep these for shows but was hoping to get another set of 15x8 rally wheels and put radials on them for day to day driving. So here's the question: when looking for a set of rally rims, what should I be looking for? Are there serial numbers that I could look for? Are the rally rims for the late 70's early 80's Vettes that same wheels? Are there different backspacings I should be aware of?What should I watch out for? I am hoping to find some at a Swap Meet but don't want to buy something that doesn't fit. Thanks for your help!

hmm... good luck with the details but I've got a set I'll sell in decent condition fairly cheap. If you're interested feel free to e-mail me and I'll get you some pictures.

All factory 15x8 Corvette rally wheels, from 1969 on are stamped with a two letter code, by the valve stemp - AZ. 68 is a one year only 15x7 Deep wheel with AG code stamped into them. You can by wheels used at the swap meets, flea markets etc, or new, or repo. I've seen them from $25-$45. Only things you really got to watch out for is, that they are straight, and the the lug holes are not all messed up.

I've got a set with tires that came off my vette when I put new wheels on it. They're almost new but I'll let em go cheap to get rid of some garage clutter.

As has been said look for the AZ code on used rims. I did the same thing. I have a set of Fiirestone Wide Ovals for show and a set of BFG radial T/A's for go. Rather than take a chance on bent or damaged used rims I bought a new set from Zip. :chevy

Okay, is the AZ stamped on the outside of the rim (so I can see it with the tire on) or on the inside of the rim so I can only see it if there is no rubber on the rim? Just wondering? Thanks for your help!

BE CAREFUL Rod--I have two that are sitting out behind my garage because they create an awful nice vibration at about 65 MPH--maybe thats why they were "a good deal at a swap meet" Ended up going to ZIP
