Default Gas leak...

For no apparent reason (as if a 36 year old car needs a reason) I've started leaking gas from around the plug on the underside of the tank where the line exits. I have half a tank of gas right now so I haven't tried to mess with anything, but can anyone speculate what I might be looking at? Rate is about 2 drops per minute, and my garage now smells like serious hydrocarbons. I'll need to find something to drain the (new-looking) tank into and go from there. Help!

It sounds to me the rubber seal that goes between the tank and sender has failed. As you said, a 36 year old car don't need a reason. This would probably be a good time to replace the seal, gas screen inside the tank and all hose connections along the fuel line. Complete kits for this are available.

Keep the garage ventilated until you stop that leak.

:iagree:

Very dangerous. If you don't already, keep an appropriate fire extinguisher nearby.

just throw a match under the car, then you can post it under the 'completed c3' thread.

:iagree: Maybe even replace the tank also.
