Default A.I.R. Pumps on 1975 L48

I just found out yesterday that there is no A.I.R. pump on 1975 L48 engines--one of the only G.M. cars without one in the 1970's. I was looking the other day and noticed plugs on the manifolds where the injection tubes should be and just figured someone else already removed them. The book I found was called Original Corvette (I think) and it covered all Vettes from 68 -82. But it cost 35 bucks. Maybe the wife will get it for my birthday in June!

My '75 has an AIR pump, just no tubes into the manifold. It uses one large tube injecting air into the exhaust pipe just below the manifold flange.

This is exactly right. '75 & '76's were set up this way. These are two years where the "smog" pump can be removed and it looks stock. Every stock 1975 Corvette that I have ever looked at had an A.I.R. pump, OR evidence that it had one since new. I've yet to see a '75 emission label that DOES'NT say as one of the emission devices A.I.R. I believe '75 being the first year for catalytic converters, all had A.I.R. pumps from the factory. I know '76 & '77(may be '78 & '79) L48 automatics did not come with a smog pump from the factory.

Paul Borowski gets the "beacon of reality Award" for today !!!!!
I have very rarely seen him to not be correct....
The easiest way to tell, is to look at the emissions sticker and look
for A.I.R.....
Also, besides looking for the L-82 vin derivative, the emissions sticker
also says "High perf." on that same sticker ......
Nevermind looking at the tach etc...etc...etc.....

Cool,
Mark B.

  Thanks for the comments, Mark!!! I'm NOT ALWAYS right though  That neat 23Kmile Medium Blue '75 L-82 coupe sold for $400 over what I thought it was worth-it looked like a cool car. Would have liked to have got it, but 4 C3s are enough for now

You guys are right again. there is a pump but no injector tubes on the manifold. I am definitely going to take another look at that book and see how I mixed that up. I think the info may have been wrong. (or I am confused)

Paul Borowski,

Now which one of your cars do you want to swap me for
my ZR-1......Which I don't drive !!!!!!!!!!
I'm looking for someone to swap me something I can have
some fun with... My car belongs in a Museum......
I also have a lead on another C3 coupe from Georgia......

Time will tell,
Mark
