Question about A/C Belt Removal
My A/C isn't working and I was wondering if removing the belt would be a bad idea?
Just checking. Thanks, Les :D

There's a crank-waterpump belt that you're supposed to put on if you pull the AC. It's a PITA though because you have to yank the pulley. Otherwise you're just driving the water pump and fan with just the power steering belt. That's *cough* what I'm doing. I haven't had any problems like this, but I have heard of a lot of guys that did.

My 78 uses the A/C and alternator to run the WP.
I cut the a/c belt. My belts squeal just a little on occasion. I'll switch to electric fans when the time is right.

I had a belt squeal on the water pump until I installed the crank to pump belt with no adjustment possible, took care of the problem. The Gates number is 7345. As others mentioned, it's not easy to install, but how often do you need to change belts?
