Bouncing Speedometer
My speedometer needle is bouncing upa nd down 10 to 15 mph at all speeds.
Does this indicate a kink in the line or a failing cable or failing speedometer head unit or ?

Re: Bouncing Speedometer (flynhi)
Do you have cruise control,a fault in the transducer can cause that.If not it sounds like binding in the cable, either dry or caked with muck. You will need to remove the cable & remove the inner piece, clean them both with solvent & relube.Should solve the problem.

Re: Bouncing Speedometer (flynhi)
A bouncing speedometer is usually a sign of non-lubed cable, or the cable itself being bad. The cable is nothing more than a long tightly wound spring and it can stretch.
Try this trick first: Pull the cable off the transmission and then pull the cable out of the housing enought to grind about 1/8" off the end. Put it back in and test drive. If it stops bouncing, you found your problem (cable stretched). If you need to lube it, it has to come out from the speedo head end under the dash.

Try this first...take off the trans end and put chassis grease on it, it will take a couple of weeks to work it's way up. Worked for me...

Flynhi, certainly try the cable first, I just use either WD40 in limited amounts, or graphite......like for door locks....either one works fine...
the speedo head could also be bad, but it's fixable on your kitchen table....
check back for the fix
