Default HELP! Need Tranny Advice

I just got my car back from the tranny shop. They did a complete rebuild (TH-350C) including a new shift kit.

The car shifts like crap now. I use to be able to squeal the tires between 1st and 2nd and now it seems to have lost that extra punch.

They told me that it would shift firmer than before, but it's so much softer.

I also noticed that when I put the car into reverse from park, or into drive from neutral, the car jumps. I'm assuming this a transmission problem.

What could have been done incorrectly?

I'm pissed because other than the fact that it doesn't leak now. It shifts like a caddy and jumps when I put it into gear.

Any advice??

Sounds like the tranny mainline pressure is too low. They could've installed a servo wrong. I'd take that thing back and have them tear it down again... Also, installing the shift kit incorrectly could cause those problems...

Could the jumping when I put it into gear be caused by a bad mount?

Depends on what kinda jumping it is. When you put it into drive, does it hesitate, then jump? Or when you put it in drive does it just jump right away? Check the bolts on the crossmember, and shake the tailshaft to check for wear on the rear tranny mount. Get in the car, set the brake and hold the foot brakes, make sure the hood is open, put the car in drive and watch the engine to see if it moves significantly. If it moves a whole lot, one of your motor mounts is bad. A little movement is normal. Good luck!

I think you're right about the motor mount being bad.
I had the tranny shop firm up the shifts and replace the transmission mount...no charge.

So, since I'm rebuilding the engine next year, I guess I can take care of the mounts then.

Thanks for all of your help Jason!!! I really appreciate it.

Anytime ;) Just keep an eye on how you drive that Vette... If you drive it too hard with a bad motor mount, you could rip that motor mount, which would be a big :nono:

It turned out to be the rear diff mount. My former mechanic should have replaced it when I rebuilt it a few years ago. I guess that's why he's my former mechanic!

Update on tranny: They firmed up the shifts and it feels like a brand new car! I'm so glad I did it and got it over with.

Engine! Here I come!!!! :auto:
