I used Mobile 1 syn gear oil, I did not rebuild but the trans seemed to shift a little easier just from the syn oil.

When I rebuilt my Muncie, I was told by the rebuilder who sold me the kit never to use synthetic in a Muncie. Dino oil only. I use 80w90 gear oil in mine.

So did either of you ask your rebuilder why? I also use Mobile 1 & find that it makes shifting smoother.

JB,
Many trans rebuilders (including NASCAR trans guru Tex Powell) think that synthetic is TOO slippery and doesn`t cling to the synchros. (And yes I am aware trannys with "synchronizers" are no longer used in the top levels of NASCAR). I use synthetic in mine but I have one of those funny trannys without synchros... ...redvetracr

When I serviced mine (MuncieM-20) I filled it with sae 145W and I could not shift it when it was cold. I went back to valvoline sae90w. It shifts very easy and is quiet...Check out http://www.5speeds.com for some good info

Vaveline 80/90 Dino / mineral oil.
Shifts OK. I am curious though, if it would shift better with synthetic oil.

Torco is very good lube, they sell re-labeled bottles to Richmond for their brand of lube. Synergyn is also good, use high quality lube if you are running M22 gears, DO NOT use Sta Lube for M22, you'll destroy it!

I use Mobil 1 in both my T-10's (one is in a '70 Nova). They shift much easier and smoother than they did with the old dino oil. I have at least 40K miles on the Vette T-10 with synthetic and have had no problems.
