How "Stiff" Should Fuel Pump Arm Be?
I have a new fuel pump ready to go in my '71 (350 stock).... and it's been awhile since I've replaced a mechanical fuel pump. I am not able to move the arm very much on the new one (don't have the old one out yet to compare to). How "stiff" should the arm be? Should I be able to move it with just the strength of my hands and generate some suction/pressure? I'm only getting about a quarter inch movement. Is that all the cam moves it? I don't want to put it in if it's defective and end up bending something.
Thanks!
Hank

I remember them being pretty darn stiff, and the cam only throws it about 1/2 inch or so.

Does anyone know the proper pushrod length? I'm in the same boat with a fuel pump - it's been 30 years since I held one like that in my hands and the lever hardly moves!

Just remember to bump the engine over so that the pushrod is not "up" on the camshaft lobe - makes installation much easier. :)
