OT - I'm buying my father his "dream car" tomorrow
Hey guys, this isn't C3 related, but it is "old car" related. My father came from very humble beginnings. He was the youngest of 5 children, his father died when my dad was 12. My grandmother worked in a textile mill to support the family. Dad enlisted in the Air Force in 1959 so he could go to college on the GI bill after his 4 years were up. He worked nights while going to college full time, got married and had me while still in school. Graduated, got a good job, went to get his Masters at night. Worked his @ss off to put me and my younger brother through college, so we wouldn't have to struggle the way that he did.
When he was in the Air Force he had a 1956 Ford Victoria 2 door hardtop. He absolutely loved that car, and it has been the one thing that he has longed for all these years, another '56 Vic. I give him subscriptions to Hemmings and Cars and Parts as gifts, and he is constantly on the lookout for that perfect Vic. I recently found one local to me, and have worked with the owner to get to an agreeable price. It's a little more than Dad thinks that the car is worth, and it's not 100% identical to the one he had. His was solid black with black/white interior. This one is two-tone black and white outside with black/white interior. The car needs some minor work, it's been off the road since 2000, but it's been driven around the block and started often.
So, tomorrow morning I'm going to go buy this car for my father. I know that he'll pay me back, but if he wants to pay me what he thinks it's worth, then I'll consider the difference as my gift to him. After everything that he has given me these past 36 years, it's the least I can do for him.
Here's a pic of Dad in what will become his next '56 Ford Victoria.
Here are links to some other pics, they are rather large http://www.employees.org/~sburgess/56vic2.jpg http://www.employees.org/~sburgess/56vic3.jpg http://www.employees.org/~sburgess/56vic4.jpg

Very nice. I restored a Vette for my dad and he loved it. I could not financially do it but all the labor was free. Good to see there is some good father son stories out there.

sb69coupe.....This is a great story and what you are doing is wonderful! My Dad (now deceased) wasn't a car guy, but did something that meant a lot to him a few years back. Found a picture of him when he was about 4 years old, taken as a portrait, but picture was small and in dog eared condition. Took it to a quality photo place where they did a restoration and blew it up into a full size portrait and had it nicely framed. Gave it to him for Christmas that year. Best present I ever got him. Glad I signed in to the forum today and saw this. Well done and  to you!

That will be a great present. I am sure he will be really pleased. If he is like my dad was they are all over priced even when it is a decent deal. Make sure to tell us how it goes.
