Default Master cylinder leak

The m/c on my 75 is leaking out the back of the cover. I opened the cover and found the back reservoir almost empty and the front one full. After refilling the reservoir I replaced the cap and have noticed some fluid slowly running down the back of the m/c. Do I just need a new gasket or is something else going on? Thanks for any help.

Depends on whether it is comming from the cover or the body of the MC.
It is common for a MC to leak out from the rear piston. In that case it would need rebuilding.

The pistons seals are probably bad. You need to either replace the master or rebuild it. It is no cheaper to rebuild the master, but in my case I needed to keep the original numbers part so I rebuilt. It took an hour to remove, rebuild, bench bleed, reinstall. The warning signs are there, now heed the warning before you have bigger problems.
