K&N X-STREAM Air Flow Plate (Pic)
Does anyone have one of these? Can you really tell if it flows an extra 500 cfm? :skep:
My engine compartment is pretty well dressed out, but no longer have the chrome compressor. Will be getting a Sanden 508 a little later.
Last week I changed the wires from yellow to red. I have been thinking about getting one of these K&N thingys with a red border to match the wires. Just something I can change once in awhile for a different look. Whata you think?

Re: K&N X-STREAM Air Flow Plate (Guru_4_hire)
I had an X-Stream lid for about 5 minutes. I think it cost me 100 HP! It is really thick and choked off the carb You need at least an inch of clearance for a carb to work. That lid sets about 5/8 of an inch lower into the aircleaner leaving me with only 3/8" between the top of the carb and the lid.
The good news is that I dynoed the car with and without the aircleaner and there is no difference. I use a drop base with a 3" K&N filter and a normal aftermarket lid. The stock lid was too tall to use with the TorkerII intake on a '68 BB.

Re: K&N X-STREAM Air Flow Plate (Fevre)
Has anyone else noticed the quality of the K&N stuff has gone down the drain lately? Just look at the rubber dipping on the edges, it's real ugly and runs quite a bit onto the gauze. The accel blue ones have a much nicer finish, like K&N used to have.

Are you asking about the X-Stream air filter top, or something else? I've not heard of this referred to as a plate....thanks

Re: K&N X-STREAM Air Flow Plate (OHSIXX)
Yeah I have one...does it flow 500cfm more? Who knows. I have a drop down airfilter and thought my air flow was being smothered by the drop down design and would benifit from air on the top. Like the other poster said, then I had the problem with the xstream element droping down to close to the choke so I "adjusted" the aluminum base of the drop down element (i.e. - took it out and stepped on it a few times to flatten it out some so it doesn't drop down as much, just call me bubba) to give it more room between the choke and xtream top. Now I have a good inch and a half betwen the xstream top and choke funnel.
Lesson - it probably won't work well with a drop down air filter base.
My car seems to like it since I have some cowl air flow going on via my hood design, thus I think it's sucking in colder air from the top from the air flow coming in from the cowl.

Re: K&N X-STREAM Air Flow Plate (Jay M)
My x-treme lid sits very close to my carb too, but last year at the chasis dyno my numbers were: 383hp at 6000 with no air cleaner on. 380 with the complete setup on, 3 inch side K&N element and extreme lid. Still not sure if its worth the extra 60 bucks though, the regular chrome top still looks great in my opion.
