Anyone Running PT 2400 and 3.42s?
After much research, I am nearly certain that this is the way I'll go.
Trying to work a deal right now as my 3.42s arrived today.
I only drag race 10 or fewer times a year, have no forseeable plans for heads and cam, don't want drag radials to be mandatory, although I am not averse to buying a set for the few times I do go to the track, and don't want the car too loose. Just looking for the mid 12s and a cut above in acceleration compared to stock Vettes for now. Looking for average stock ZO6 performance in the 1/4. Best 1/4 so far 13.14 on runflats
Rode in and drove a friend's 2000 vert, with Cartek (Stage II, I believe) heads and cam package, FLP headers, 3.42s and SY3500. Of course with this setup his car did not feel the slightest bit loose, but I don't intend to mod to this extreme so don't feel the 3500 stall and less than 2.0 STR is for me.
Please share your thoughts and experiences with this setup. Thanks.

I had the PT2400 and 3.42 gears in my car awhile back. The PT2400 is a good little converter that will improve your cars performance out of the hole. But it will give you little or no improvement from a roll. Your car will still have dead spots in acceleration with this combo. I upraded to the ST3500 and 3.73 gears in my car, this combo gives MUCH better performance and is also very streetable. Save yourself time and money and go with AT LEAST a 3000 stall or better yet an SS3600.

I ran that particular setup on my car and it got me a 12.20@112 so track performance was pretty good IMO. Like Mitch stated above, it isn't the best one to use if you get into it from a roll. If my car was only used on the street I would have stayed with that setup though...Perfect street manners and a definite improvement. Make sure you get torque management turned off with LS1 Edit when you do the swap.

When you were running the PT 2400 and 3.42s what kinds of 60ft times were you getting? How about ETs?
I lhave also thought of the Yank 3000 as an alternative, but Yank makes so many converters its damn confusing as to which to pick based upon driving habits.
Anything I can't stand is a car thats too loose. I have another friend with a C4 with too high a stall converter for his stock heads and cam LT1. Its like driving the car with the emergency brake on. Car won't budge unless you give it what seems to be 30% throttle. Put it in reverse and forget it, it won't move without giving it a good amount of throttle. Its a C4 so its not pleasant to drive to begin with. :jester The high stall converter makes a bad situation worse.
How is the SS3600 in terms of looseness or tightness with 3.42s?
@NJVetteguy
If I can get anywhere near 12.20 I'd be elated.

I am running the SS3600 and 3.42 gears. On flat surface the car will creep in gear at idle. And launches hard with BFG 295/35/18 Drag radials. I would buy the converter again, but sure wish I had the opportunity to see if the 3.73's would be a better all around gear. See if you can do a test ride. :seeya Ron B.

I was getting 1.7-1.8 60 ft. times with DRs at the track the few times I went to the track with that combo. Your times should be better since my car was having issues at the time.
I lhave also thought of the Yank 3000 as an alternative, but Yank makes so many converters its damn confusing as to which to pick based upon driving habits.
The Yank 3000 with the 2.0 STR is the converter you would be interested in if you decide to go that route.

I don't like a loose converter either so I uderstand your concerns. The Yank 3000 with a 2.0 STR will feel almost as tight as the PT2400 and give you better performance. This would be the smallest converter that I would recommend.
How is the SS3600 in terms of looseness or tightness with 3.42s?
I had the ST3500 which is an older version of the SS3600. This converter feels nice and tight with 3.73 gears and gives great performance. It might feel a bit more loose with 3.42s but it should still feel nice and tight. This is the converter I would go with if I wanted great performance without excessive looseness. As I said the PT2400 is a nice little converter but most of the guys who were running them wound up replacing them with converters with higher stall speeds.

BTW, I like my A4/3.42 & Vigilante 2800 set-up. Not too loose & very streetable. I have not gone back to the track with this set-up, yet, but will post up results.

What are "dead spots"?
And I run the Predator now and will get a custom tune for the 3.42 and TC install. I am not running torque management now, and had no plans to do so afterward.

I have 3.42's and a Vig2800, no TM. I love the Vig, and PI's customer service is great. I highly recommend this combo.
