Default #4 body mount caged nuts

Heya...putting back the body on my frame in the next few weeks and I need to access the #4 caged nut thats in the body... I see the fiberglass cover but I ain't sure I should be pulling on that. Any other way to access it? from inside maybe? Reason is the nut is turning over and I need to replace it or tighten the holding brackets.

From the inside you can pull back the carpet behind the wheel wells and get to them. There is a hole about 5" square that leads to them. The cage is riveted to the fiberglass with 2 rivets. I would plan on replacing the support metal pieces on the bottom while you have it apart. That is what supports the mounts.

Yeah - check and replace the #4 body reinforcements if needed.
I think you need to remove them to get at the cage-nut retainer rivets.

Suggestion : scrap the cage-nut idea (obviously it sucks).
Take out the whole cage-nut retainer. Use a big washer
and install the bolt from the top. Put the nut on the outside.
Yeah, it takes two to install, but it will come off in the future if needed.

If you have a convertible, there's a plate covering the nut and cage that you have to remove. Take the bolt out at the base of the hinge support and grind the rivets off that hold the cover. It's still PIA to get to with the hinges in the way but you can do it. Like the others said, replace the steel reinforcements too. I thought mine looked good until I got them off and then realized how thin they had become from rust. You'll have to rivet everything back together after getting the nut and cage installed. 3/16" dia pop rivets will work if you're not an NCRS type. I used the original aluminum rivets though.
