It's ALIVE and back on the road!!
I am so stoked! I finally got the new engine in the Vette and everything hooked up. I broke-in the cam on Friday and worked all day Sunday on little details (bleeding the brakes, torquing all the bolts on the suspension, installing cotter pins, etc.). Yesterday afternoon I took it on it's first test drive. Man this engine is awesome. I can't wait to be able to really get on it full throttle. It has really good power and runs very smooth.
I have tuning tweaks to do on the EFI but that will just take time. I don't have any major leaks but I do have a minor oil drip from the pan somewhere. The break-in went very smooth. The water temp never went above 170 degrees (I think it helped to have a large fan blowing on the radiator) and everything else looked great.
Here are some photos of all the fun. I apologize to the dial-up guys.
I first primered the engine.
Then painted it to match the car.
putting the clutch on
Ready to go....
and where it's going
putting it in
making progress
all done
all I can say is

Looking good, always like to see your car, somethgin with the stance, the color and those wheels make it a real looker :)
BTW, those moroso covers... what ones are they? They look like jsut the ticket for me to clear my accelerator pump rods. Those are lower on the intake manifold side than the GMPP ones I had (and didn't fit), they were not angled like those.

Marck, thanks for the compliments. As for the valve covers they are NASCAR 18 degree items. I can get you some measurements if you want to compare with your GMPP covers.

Here you go Twin_Turbo, dimensions in inches. Sorry for the free hand lines that look like a five year old did them but you get the idea.

Thanks guys. Yesterday I drove it twice. My wife and I took a nice drive in the evening with the T-tops off. I now have 68 miles on the new engine. I'm counting down to 500 when I can really hammer it.

Re: It's ALIVE and back on the road!! (MEGLADON)
TT, I'm not using the Moroso's because I really like the look of the stock covers. I just powder coated them and they look awesome. I will admit that the Moroso covers looked nice on the engine. All that raw, cast aluminum of the covers and intake is a nice contrast to the dark painted engine.
MEGLADON, It's running really strong. I still have some tuning to do to get the idle correct and to dial in the spark curve but the tunability on the Holley EFI is very impressive. Watching all the parameters in real time on the laptop is so cool (and useful). After this experience all I can say is carburetors suck. EFI and computer controlled timing is the only way to go.

Nice work burners and engine looks impressive.
Please stop changing valve covers as I thought my computer was broke - different v-cover in every pix. :D

cardo0, I'll try to keep the same set of valve covers on for now. I'm so sorry for the confusion :hat
groovyjay, thanks. I'll get the fresh air inlets connected soon, more power!
