Pictures from the NCRS regional meet in Charlotte NC, April 17
Thought everyone would like to see some of the cars that were at the NCRS meet here in Charlotte the weekend of April 17th. Enjoy!
There were two '53 and this is production number 80:
The second '53's engine, production number 30:
A pair of '59's (if I remember the year correctly):
There were several L88's there. Here's a '69:
And the window sticker to the '69. The engine option for the 427 was a little over $1000. Worth every penny today:
Looking down the center of the building:
Another C3:
Yet another beautiful C3:
Another L88:
The original '67 (might have been a '66) L88 raced by Roger Penske:
A '67 sold at Yenko Chevrolet:
The '67's Yenko engine:
Sales receipt for the Yenko. Notary was Martha Yenko.
Cars outside not being judged:

Very cool  Thanks for sharing. Looks like they had a real nice turn out. :chevy
That Pensky racer is a 1966 and was the first factory 427 L88 540hp with a competition race package. It was raced at the 24 hr Indurance race at Daytona. Penske assembled the experienced team of Dick Guldstand, Ben Moore and George Wintersteen for the race. The L-88 finished 1st. in the GT Class and placed 11th overall in the race. The car was then raced at the 12 Hours of Sebring where it finished 1st in class, and 9th overall, tying the record as the highest finish ever for a Corvette.
That car is owned and restored by Kevin Mackay of Corvette Repair.

Robert,
Thank you for posting the pictures. That was a very nice event and the weather was great.
I visited with Kevin for about an hour and, for the first time, had an opportunity to get up close and personal with the 66 L88 Penske car. As Jerry has already stated, the car has a very well documented race history. Kevin did an outstanding restoration and it was fun and informative looking at his indepth scrap book on the car.
As for driving on the racetrack, well, after a few (several) King of Beers during the day, I think it was best I passed on the opportunity and just watched Paul and the others. I did, however, drive my 69 (10 miles) during a PV (successful) on Friday.
Thanks again for posting the pics, Robert.
Regards,
Mark Donnally

I think the picture is mislabled. The pic labeled as the Yenko car is in fact the Penske racer. Notice the Traco race motor and the yellow headers.
Awesome pics, though.
I sure wish I would have known about it. I would have gone.

Mark,
Chuck Berge was very thorough, but, very fair. I was glad when it was over. Now it is on to Windsor for (hopefully) a Duntov.
I have not been on the 'wrong side' of the law since I was 18 years old, BUT, I did do a pretty good burnout at the end of my PV and got caught by one of the Speedway's Finest. I was threatened with impoundment of my car and I thought for a while he might even kick me out of the facility. He ultimately let me go. There are still a couple of 50' black marks at the entrance to the garages. When the show was over, I got Stan (Rowdy Rat) to drive my car out for me. You know, that way he could get the ticket instead of me (what are friends for?). It was a great weekend.
Regards,
Mark

Hey Mark, congrats on the PV for the 69 L88. As for the 50' of rubber you laid down afterwards, "good on ya". I'm sure it was worth the hassle.
Unfortunately some folks have no sense of humour, eh?
Does the silver L88 belong to Dick?
Catch you soon I hope.

I PV'ed my C5 on the speedway right at 100 mph while taking the corners at 80. That is an incredible car...just sticks!
Mark...congrats on your PV.
Paul, yeah your wife looked like she was having a good time...didn't realize she's driving the vette to the mall and spending your money! Now I understand

Just to add, the picture of the grey motor 'Traco' is from the Penske car, not the '67. Also that is the FIRST L88 made. They made 1 L88 in '66 and that's it.

Barney's probably still cruisin' around the garage area looking for someone to slap the cuffs on...
You're a very brave man handing me the keys... I was tempted to point that thing in the direction of East Berlin a couple of times!

Wayne,
Yes, the silver/silver L88 belongs to DB. A very nice car and he is a great guy.
Tom,
Now that Stan has answered your smog pump question, I'm sure the book will be released shortly. :D That must have been fun letting that C5 have a go of the Speedway.
Stan,
As always, I appreciate you being my designated loader. I have your camera packed and it will go out to our buddy today.

Mark

the orange"gulf" car was a ZL-1 and the owner still has the orignal engine. it was the only one built with a turbo 400 and he has the tank sticker

Got any more pics of this one. That is one sweet ride. I love the color of it. Would make for a nice little neighborhood alarm clock and 5:30 in the morning.
