DYEING UPPER DASH PAD---NEED HELP
HELLO FELLOW VETTERS :seeya GETTING READY TO DYE A 1976 FIRETHORN TO A BLACK DYE. WHAT'S THE PREP FOR THIS??NEED ANY AND ALL IDEAS AND PROBLEMS ANYONE HAS ENCOUNTERED :banghead:

Take the dash pad and let it rest in the sun to warm up. Fill a spray bottle with "prep-sol" wax and silicone remover, then spray down the pad and wipe it off with clean paper towels, replacing them frequently. Do this wipe-down twice to make sure that you get all the old Armor All and crud off the pad.
Spray light coats of the dye onto the pad, letting it flash over between coats. Do not lay it on heavy, or it will mottle and look cruddy. That's about all I did with mine, and it turned out nicely.

Bottom line. Preparation (as per above) but use SEM products.
Just did my dash and it turned out like new.
