Trouble during front end rebuild yesterday
Notice the smoke here ?
Dennis (pra4sun) came down yesterday for a full front end rebuild.
We would have completed it, except for one small hitch.
The rear (large) bolt on the passenger side lower control arm was frozen
inside the crossbar. We tried banging it, PB Blaster, heat .... it is still stuck.
Here is the source of the smoke ...
Next attempt will be with a 2-jaw puller.
If that doesn't work, then I will be drilling the bolt out.
Any other good ideas ?
All in all we had very good luck with everything coming apart and going back
together. Thanks to Lars for some good tips in his paper. The air chisel
saved much headache and time.

Aha, the old blue nose wrench. That usually works on anything. Hopefully you guys will "Get er done" with out too many more problems. Thank goodness mine came apart quite easily. Good luck.

The same thing happened to my 72 only it was the drivers side front bolt. I had to cut it off then gring it out with a dremal with a stone attachment. It broke to many drill bits. Then i went to lowes and got a grad 8 heat treated bolt to replace it.

I was totally comfortable with that flame right next to the fuel pump, wasn't I Dave?
The rebuild went very smoothly, except for this one thing. We definitely would have finished before the rain came.
Dave has a killer set of tools, BTW. In this case, a bigger hammer wouldn't work, just ask the beat-up pickle fork. That hydraulic press really comes in handy for this job.
