Default shifter kit 79 4spd

Have a Borg Warner 4 speed on a L48. Any thoughts on shifter kits. Thinking Hurst would be a good way to go. Any suggestions on who to buy from? The car is a driver, headers and some future mods to the engine. Down the road would like a 383 with some hp.

I don't have a Hurst on the Vette but I would highly recommend one. The stock shifter really stinks and the Competition Plus is an awesome shifter. Try the normal Corvette mail order guys like Eckler's or Corvette Central, etc.

Great, was looking for a "model" hurst. Will check out the Competition Plus. Kinda thought I couldn't go wrong with Hurst but have no idea of what model to go with. Thanks again.

installed Hurst Comp Plus in my 79.....very happy with the shifter. Nice tight gate, install was relatively easy. Good choice IMO. :steering:

Thanks for your info. Did you use the Hurst shifter or the "original style"? Is the Hurst stick longer then the factory style. It looks longer but can't tell from the pictures. Called one catalog out fit they were not sure.

Get the HURST COMP PLUS kit from Corvette Central. Looks stock but works great. Buy some thin washers to shim the shifter linkage pivots as you install it. It will make it stay nice and firm for a long time.

I used the Hurst Shifter, and actually cut approx two inches out of the shifter and rewelded with slight angle. Makes for a very nice short throw. I have done this two or three times, and never had had a problem. If you want the stock appearance do as suggested in previous post. Ck Corvette Central, Mid America...or Ecklers.

Yes I,m interested. What do you have? Do you have all the linkage etc., or just the stick assembly?
