Half Shaft Removal
While checking for a vibration ( earlier post) I see that the universals are original so i am just going to start there and replace them all. Does anyone have any tips on how to remove the half shafts? TIA

Re: Half Shaft Removal (Richard Cooper)
on my 71 i rember its quite simple. I did use a floor jack to raise/lower the T/A so I could get at all the bolts.

If you still have your spare tire housing installed, remove that first. Five minute job that gives you better access to both ends of the half shafts.

Rich .... Be aware that the 1/2 shafts are load bearing. You must have the car on jackstands to remove them. Also they won't turn a full 360. The universals are "captured." If the wheel ever goes airborne while spinning bad things will occur. [They will brake and the 1/2 shafts wil damage the undercarriage]

Thanks to all, sjr1971 if you are ever around New Paltz let me know we can get together and compare cars. I go to the Newburgh car cruise every Saturday night. Its in the Advance Auto Parts parking lot on route32. I have a white81 coupe. Maybe I'll see you there. Take care and thanks. :seeya
