Long or short W/P belongs on a '73 454?
Hey Guys,
My '73 454 has an Edelbrock short water pump on it. The P.O. removed the P/S and A/C, so I'm only driving the W/P & Alternator. I want to switch to a serpentine system and am wondering if (1) this would be the right W/P for the car, (2) would the Alternator mounting brackets be different depending on the W/P length, and (3) is the harmonic balancer different from the factory (is the pulley mounting face offset differently) depending on the water pump configuration for a particular engine?
My first instinct is just to suck it up and call Street & Performance and dump the bux, but I'm considering a junkyard trip to collect parts.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Tom
