OT: Could use some help diagnosing my daily driver--
I just don't know enough about computer controlled engines.
'01 Silverado, 45K miles. On some longer trips (30+ miles) but not on all, starts missing hard, esp. under load. If I shut if off, won't start again until it's sat for 30minutes or more (turns over but doens't fire). Doesn't throw any codes, doesn't overheat (outside temps are mild, 80degrees and under). Been doing it for a month, so not bad gas. I've replaced fuel filter, air filter, dist. cap and rotor, run a couple bottles of Techron through it. Plugs look fine, no cracks in plug wires. About reached the limits of my diagnosing skills.
Whatchall think?

Triple that diagnosis ....
but you'd think that they would solve this crippling problem since the 80s.
Good luck :seeya :smash:

What engine do you have?
My 01 Silverado with a 5.3 doesn't have a distributor, all computer controlled

It's got the 4.3 liter V-6, and it definitely has a distributor, and that distributor is located in the same lousy place Chevy has always put them, which makes it damned hard to get to, especially with all the electronics crap and brackets that cross over on top of it. It took me nearly a half-hour just to get the blasted distributor cap and rotor replaced.
I feel better now.
I took the module down to the parts store and they tried to test it and said it "wouldn't test." I asked if that meant it was bad and they said, no, it means it "wouldn't test." Oy. So I went ahead and paid the $65 for the new one. Hope that fixes it!
Thanks, guys!

A buddy of mine has a '01 Silverado, and has around 50,000 miles on it. He has had problems with the Security System. He had to bring it to the dealer, and they fixed it at around 500 bucks. His truck had the same problem, had to sit for around 30 minutes before it would start. The only way to check electronic problems like this would be at the dealer. Worth checking into maybe. Good Luck!
P.S. My buddy is a master mechanic with Catipiller, and fully understands all aspects of this vehicle, except knows when to bring it to the dealer to hook up for an electronic scan. Sometimes you are at the Dealers mercy.
