Default Restored my Intake Manifold

I though I'd post some pictures of my recent progess. My waterpump died on my 77 L-82 and while I was in there, I somehow came to the conclusion that I needed to take off almost everything bolted to the engine block and clean it up. Here's my intake manifold restoration.

The engine runs clean and I don't have any problems other than some emissions devices not working properly, this project was mostly cosmetic. Once I worked my way down to the intake manifold I found a few items that needed fixing too.

Here's my manifold as it came off my engine. I believe it may have been the dirtiest looking part of my car.

I took off and bought a cheap sandblaster when the wire wheel wasn't making any progress. It got the job done, but a little moisture in my sand led to a very very light rusting when I was done. A quick one-over with a wire brush got rid of it. Then it was time to prep for paint.

Here it is with 3 coats of engine paint

It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, just took up a heck of a lot of time.

Very nice job! I have re-done a number of intakes as winter projects. It is very satisfying work and cosmetically makes a large difference on the appearance of an engine. I see that you have sandblasted. If you have not done so already, remove the oil splash pan underneath to check for residual sand particles. They can do severe damage to an engine when ingested.

Looks great! You seem to share something prevalent among many Forum members - the "While I'm At It - itis" disease. Results are generally a better running, performing, and/or looking Corvette.

Good work!!! Just did my 77 intake last week also. No paint yet though, and YES...remove that pan...there WILL be sand under there.
Good Luck

Very nice job . Could you clean the intake up without pulling it? secondly what paint did you use and where did you get it? And thirdly did you use a brush or spray can for application? Thanks. tom
