I just got an 81. I am in the process of replacing the water pump. It appears that the brackets for the smog pump hook on to the water pump. since it looks like I have to take off the smog pump, I would like to leave it off. I live in a state that does not have inspections so that is no problem. Since this car has a computer controlled carb, is there any problems leaving the pump off?

You will need to cap off the air tubes, just remove the check valves and replace with pipe caps. Also I never ran without my smog pump, but if your check engine light comes on you may need to jumper the 2 connectors with resistors. Not sure of the size, but you can probably measure the resistance across the solenoids on the smog pump.
