What could cause a spark plub to work it's way out?
I kept smelling an oil leak from my car and it started to miss really bad. After looking at the spark plugs, one of them had worked it's way out. I replaced them back in the fall and tightened to specks. The car runs good now, but I just don't want this to happen again.

Well if you use 'plugs' instead of 'plubs'.....it won't happen. :jester
....sorry, just couldn't resist
Make sure you don't have oil on the threads and that they're tight enough and completely 'seated'. Perhaps the missing plug fell out by vibration.

The problem is not enough torque on installation or not enough "crush" of the gaskets (depending on year of the car.) you should also check the seat on the cylinder head and make sure it is in good shape. You can get a circulat wire brush at the hardware store to clean the seats (plumber's use them for prepping copper pipe for soldering.) One interesting note for you Blue Oval turncoats out there, the late model modular DIS motors have a reputation for "kicking" out plus as the coil pack tension is not sufficient enough to keep them tightened for long periods of time, you should check them every 50K miles or so. There is a really neat thread repair kit for those Found On the Roadside Dead engines if you should happen to suffer this misfortune. I am LS1 powered on my 99 GMC so I don't need to worry about such things!

The only way I've heard of a spark plug coming loose is if it wasn't tight enough from the get go. Tighten them again. :yesnod:
