Default Anyone ever see a 1970 LT-1 with manual brakes?

I am looking at a car that has all the makings of a 1970 LT-1 Vette but, it has non-power brakes. I need to know if anyone has ever owned one. This car has all the right parts but the brake booster and is $22.5K so I am trying to get my buddy to buy it. I need to hear from you NCRS people with the judging manuals. The tank has never been dropped so I am thinking it will check out after purchase, every other part is there except for the TI ignition but the front splash guard has the holes in the right place for the amplifier unit and the car has a Mallory Unitlite set-up so I think someone yanked that off. The fuel line is right, motor OK (but has been decked for blueprinting), rear end is HD one, brass radiator with S.B. 4 speed where any other car would be an aluminum radiator, no power steering, and 6500 redline tach. The brakes are the only thing making me question the car, my old 1970 had power and I know all 71-72's had J50 power brakes but, what about 1970? Any knowledgeable input will be appreciated, I think the car is a STEAL at the asking price! if you can live with green interior and exterior (no bad remarks! my 72 is Elkhart green.)

My 72 LT1 is a bona fide LT1 and it had manual brakes. The only ones that were mandatory were the ZR1 cars. The standard LT1 cars did not have to have power brakes.

Thanks, I just checked the M.F. Dobbins 68-72 fact book and see pictures of an LT-1 with manual brakes so the car is REAL! I will post phone number on the forum if my buddy makes the mistake of not buying it.

Solid LT-1 your reference to no power steering for the 70 LT-1. Are you saying that all 70 LT-1's did not have power steering?

Power steering was offered on 70 LT-1's towards the end of production. It required a different oil pan than manual steering. Most 70 LT-1's dont have PS.

power brakes was an option, ps steering late in model run required the pan to be a 5qt vs earlier 6qt because steering rod on ps hit pan with 6qt. not many made with ps, never seen a documented one yet, not to say they are not out there

I just flipped through my judging guide. It does not state if 70 LT-1's did or did not have PB. It just tells you how to judge it if the car is equipped with PB. Also, it says that no 1970 LT-1's built before May 1970 are equipped with PS. But NCRS allows owners to prove otherwise if they have documentation that it did. Also says no engine with a CTU code should have PS.

Also, the other 1970 models with a Copper rad include the L46.

Got any pics?

My car is a legitimate '72 LT-1 vert with manual brakes and manual steering from the factory, and I've seen plenty other 70 to 72 LT-1's with manual brakes. These items were definitely additional options (not included with the LT-1 package).

My well documented 70 LT-1 is a June 29 build and NO power brakes. Most 70 LT-1s were manual brake cars.

The price seems low based on the description. I would definetly get a knowledgeable person to check the car. There are quite a few options that should/should not be present.

PS: mine is also green on green and I like it. I will be happy to help with any questions.

Green/green cars are hard to sell. My dad and I did a full resto on a 454 Donnybrook green/green leather '70 and it was a bear to sell when we were done. There are just alot of people who don't like it. Less demand usually = lower price. Sounds like a deal if your friend doesn't mind green. We also had a red/red LT1, M21, 4.11 and that car was a screamer.

My (originally) base motor '70 has no PB and I like it better that way.
