Picture of my valve train
I set the valves this week, installed the stud girdles, plugs, wire and valve covers. Other then install the battery it is ready to come out of storage. Maybe next week if the weather stays dry. Sure is raining now.
Anyway this is a shot of my valve train, roller springs, crower stainless full roller rockers, crane stud girdle. I always paint the inside of my motors with special transformer paint after smoothing everything for better oil drain back.
Double click to enlarge.
Thanks Twin Turbo

Re: Picture of my valve train (mrvette)
Gene I drive about 2000 miles a summer and the motor is going into it's forth summer. I have about 6000 miles on this motor as you see it here. All internal surfaces are painted with transformer paint to seal the block. Your motor should be clean inside.
This valve train is very stable with the stud girdle. I also use lash caps or little caps that sit on the valve end and the rocker rolls on the lash caps. In the event of a rocker failure the valve is protected.

I use Kendal 10 W 30 because I get it for free from my son. As for filters I use Fram. I start with new oil in the spring and change it once in the middle of the summer. I use the old oil in my truck.

Yes, please tell us more about the kind of paint. Is it available locally, or mail order, or industrially available only?
Getting new heads soon... know any other tricks?
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Picture of my valve train (DJ Dep)
Norval, why Fram? I use Wix exclusively based on a cutaway I once saw of various filters. Wix makes filters for NAPA here in the States, not sure about Canada.
BTW, that is one sweet looking motor. I keep a photo of it in my shop to enjoy (the one where you can see the gauges).

Re: Picture of my valve train (Twin_Turbo)
glyptal is brown but it too is transformer paint. I like Norval's gray better than my poop brown glyptal
What difference does color make to the inside of a motor Twin Turbo. I paint them brown too but run out of paint and switched to this gray stuff because I had it. The oil doesn't care what color you paint it.
I totally debur the block, chamger all return holes, polish the lifter gallery they degrease everything carefully and paint to seal the block and promote oil return.
Screens glued over the large holes are another good idea to prevent broken parts from falling into the engine.
Count on something breaking sometime and prepare for it.

No Dep I want function more then looks. I know my car stands out but if I could stuff a blower under the hood I would go that route. I would like to blend in with traffic, not stand out but a 8-71 sticking through the hood doesn't bend too easily.
I would go with fabricated vavle covers but they won't fit under the lip of the blower.
See through is too Mickey mouse.

Re: Picture of my valve train (Frank75)
Norval, why Fram?
Because that is what is sold by the local parts store. I change my oil about every 1000 miles, my motor is clean inside, I use good oil, fram filters are cheap and I don't know I have a problem so I good with Fram.
I have never made a study of oil filters and just go with what is popular here.
I keep a photo too in my shop but it isn't of my motor

I know you do nice work Twin Turbo. I have never seen anything second class coming from you. In all your photo's the parts are beautifully finished and from the posts I know you know your stuff.
Wish you lived in my town. We could work together.
