Re: gear oil (mastromi)
If it's old and hasn't been rebuilt, I use Castrol 75w-90. I wouldn't use synthetic in an old box, it will leak out. Same goes for the rear (but add a bottle of GM posi fluild).

Amsoil is very good. We get ours from our diesel mechanic. I don't think regular autopart stores sell them. Usually Amsoil tranny comes in 5 gallon containers. I think you should try to find someone local that works on diesels and see if they have it. I have seen some garages around here that carry it and usually they have a sign on the window or something. Good luck.

You can now purchase AMSOIL right through there web sight, I just purchased 75/90w gear oil for my Harley in quart containers last month.

Re: gear oil (mvftw)
Not 100% sure because I'm not the original owner. However, I assume that the gaskets are original (Judging by the work i have done on the car). It's an 80 L48 with the 4sp stick. Real decent ride- looks like it came out of a museum or something.
