Door Mirror install...hole to large...?
Long story short..had to re-drill holes on driver door of my 69 for the mirror. Used template but still missed the OLD ones just a little, this caused one hole to be slightly larger than necessary...
Problem is that the rubber insert is now to small to do the job of holding the bracket.
Anyone with an idea of how to fix this?..I am leaning toward taking the door panel off and attaching some sort of "plate" over the hole and making sure it is correct size...Any BEEN THERE/DONE THAT suggestions...thanks... :cry

Can you get a bigger rubber insert? Or make one.

Might try wrapping the insert with hose repair tape (it is usually more flexible than standard black tape and will not crack) to increase its diameter, might be bubba but will not cost you any time or $ to try. Just keep checking it to make sure it does not loosen up, if it does the internal plate sounds like a good idea.

Both these sound good, I am going to play with it and see what happens, just do not want to put a lot of pressure on the fiberglass in a single spot..
I do thank you for the input...

I use drywall hollow wall polly drive anchors. They come in various sizes to suit any hole size. Get 'em at any corner hardware store.

bin there done that, I removed the int panel and made steel plates using the install bracket as a template, but If I recall i Had to cut the exterior door to install the plates because of obstructions in the door, simple mirror replacement got expensive, good luck :nopity

Been there, done that. I had to drill out a broken bolt that bubba had left for me. I guess that's why he never fixed the wobbly mirror. I ended up using some of that 2 part putty from Home Depot to fill the hole. I let it cure for a day, and carefully sanded it flush. Then I redrilled the size hole I needed, and installed the rubber insert. Looks bad if you take the plate off, but with the mirror installed you can't tell at all. So far it has been solid as a rock, and stayed on at 80+ mph...
