I just cranked mine with open pipes and I think I'm deaf now..lol. Maybe it was because I was in my shop with a wall about 3 ft away..or maybe my big choppy cam, or maybe the compression(10.5-11:1). All I know is that its freaking loud. Good thing my JCLs are already on the way.

Even without mufflers, mine is still quieter than the ubiqitous Harley so popular these days...just watch your legs when you're getting out!

You know how the saying goes, "if it's too loud then you're too old" ;) j/k . Seriously though, I run open headers through my side pipes and I bet my motor makes a little more noise than yours (468 big block). I honestly don't think they are that loud but it sure does rattle the windows around the neighborhood.

I can't really tell which is louder,, my Harley w/Sampson baffles or my Stage II on the '79. I guess in the long run, IT DON'T MATTER

I'm guessing that being in my shop..bouncing all around the walls makes it extra loud. I'm gonna pull it out in the daylight before the baffles go in and see how it sounds. don't get me wrong...I'm a drag racer and I love loud...just in closed quarters..this is kinda nuts.:eek: I'm sure its not too bad outside the garage. I know how you guys feel about the harleys..if I ever get an exhaust ticket I'm gonna be pissed. I will get it on vid before anything goes in the sidepipes.

Loud pipes aren't a problem in northern Illinois. what prevents us from running side pipes here is state emissions testing. A car without a catalytic will not pass the test.

I started mine with basically no exhaust and it wasn't that bad idling. The less power they put out the quieter they are. I'm sure if I bumped up the timing and such that it'll do a wonderful job of pissing off the neighborhood. Maybe I'll just rev it to the redline, that ought to do it...
