Default Drive 540 to CIV and hang out..or tow it and let it all hang out on the track?

Ok, here's the deal. I built this thing to have fun with. I love to drive it for hours on end, AND I love to beat on it every chance I get!

Last year we drove my buddies '65 up to BG from TX and had a blast. This year he's going again, a few C-5's we know and a couple of C-3's from Dallas. One of them is a 540 also. They are Tremec O/D guys on top of 3.08's, so they'lll be cruising faster than me.

But, the deal is, should I drive it up there and enjoy the cruise, which would be a blast, or wuss out and trailer it up there and then flog it within an inch of it's life???

I know the best deal is to drive it AND flog it, but there's not much room for slicks, jacks, tools etc in it, and it's a LONG way home when/if I scatter something!

So what do you guys think? Drive it this year to prove it's roadworthiness and race it next year or what??

Jim:
Personally if it were me here is what I would do. I would find a buddy to drive the truck and trailer up seperate and you drive the 'Vette up. Then when you get up there, show them what a real car is supposed to run like down the 1320. You have the best of both worlds, you get to drive it up and if you break it you can still trailer it home. I know a bunch of my friends would help me do something like that. Did you get the new transmission installed? How's everything holding up for you? Also, good luck :) .

P.S. I also like the idea of strapping the slicks to the roof of the C5 and making him carry your tools for you so I'll vote for that one ;) .

You know Shane, I actually have offered that deal. I was trying to entice several folks into racing and of course everyone is worrried about scattering Vette diff chunks that far from home. Hey I can throw a spare one in the truck right?

I just bought a new Powerstroke Diesel pickup so I figured someone would enjoy riding in the A/C wouldn't you? And I even figured if lots of folks were going, everyone could chip in for fuel for it, like rotate tanks of fuel purchases as sort of an insurance policy to get home? And whoever had to use it had to buy all the fuel home or something? Sounded like a good deal, 'cause it gets much better mileage than any of these C-2's andC-3's!!

Not sure yet how we're going to do it.

You going? If I can make it you can too! I'm pushing hard on Mark to bring his down from NH. You guys could meet up and carpool it to make sure everyone made it without trouble. He's got a new engine that will need breaking in. What better way to do it!

Yeah, I got the new trans. Works great. Sure is fun to have something you can powershift at mega rpm with this much HP.

After careful consideration Jim, I think you should trailer it up there and flog it at the track. Selfishly I am dying to se what you will do with that beast all together and in great tune. So I say do all the talking at the track this year. Good luck Jim.

It's "ONLY" the coolest Vette happening going on this year! It's in Bowling Green Kentucky at the Museum. We get the track to ourselves for the day, chassis dyno, museum, assy plant tours, cruises, parking lot refreshments, BSing....and then BSing....and then some more BSing....etc etc.

We had an absolute blast last year.

Just a short drive for you and your girlfriend. You might be deaf when you get there with open headers.....

You got a trailer? You can make laps all day at track for chumpchange!!

Memorial Day Weekend. Need to get there Thursday or Friday beforehand at the latest to have a good relaxing weekend.

There were some Canadians there last year with a wild 9sec nitroused C-4 and another with a Turbo GN motor also running 9's.

I think Norval can make the trek down..what do you think?

We need more C-3's and C-2s and C-1's so we aren't outnumbered by C-5's and C-4's!

In fact there are LOTS of guys here that NEED to attend this deal.

427Hotrod If its truly road-worthy and you enjoy driving it, I say you drive it, and bring a support vehicle/trailer along!

big632 Not trying to hi-jack this thread, but you wouldn't by chance have any videos of your car @ track, or street? I absolutely love it. :smiliedrool:

Interesting....C-3 guys say drive it, C-2 guys say trailer it, Engine mod guys say trailer(we're accustomed to breaking stuff I guess!)

Hmmmm........I sure want to drive it....that's the fun of the whole deal. Going to have to keep pondering, but driving is still my number one choice.

Gotta get some tunes working in that dude...it's a long drive and I don't know the words to enough songs to sing to myself that long!

I'd be content just listening to the engine singing.

I think driving it and a chase trailer is the way to go if you can get someone to do it. I wish I could cruise with you up there but it looks like we are going with the Tuesday morning group out of DFW. At the moment I will be the only C3 and the rest are C5's. I will be taching some high rpms on the trip but the C5's usually have to keep up with me.
