problem with tach on a '79
my tach quit this wknd. when i started the engine it was working fine.about 3 hrs. later,it pegged the next time i started it ,and now the needle doesnt' move.what do i do now? could a wire be loose?, if i have to remove the tach,how hard is the job? thx, jim

More than likely you need a new printed circuit.

Drop the column down enough to get the tach/speedo cluster out. Check the back circuit board for open or cut wires. I had to jumper a couple leads together to get the bulbs to work on mine. Easy work, just be careful not o bend anything beyond it's limit when removing or installing the cluster. There's also the tach filter under the hood near the distributor, not sure how to check that tho.

thanks for the info. i think i will start at the distributor first,and go from there. i have a friend with a '79 and will ask him this wknd if he ever had a similar problem. i will post the result. thx,jim
