Replacing throw out bearing in a 4 speed
Folks.
Last time I changed one out, the motor was out of the car. No big deal.
Looks like I have another to change. I already think I know the answer to this one, BUT:
Must the tranny be removed from the engine to replace one? Hope not :(

Re: Replacing throw out bearing in a 4 speed (MELVIN)
Yes it does, the input shaft end is inserted into the crank so there is no way to remove the TO bearing with separting the two. Never done it with the eng/trans in the car but you might be able to move the trans back far enough to switch them without pulling the trans out of the car but I am not sure.

:yesnod: Gotta pull the tranny in order to get to it. LOTS of fun in the limited space under these Corvettes. John, shoot me an IM if you want to bring the car up here to Apex. You can use my lift and it makes the job much easier.

IMO YES and I would definately replace clutch, pressure plate, pilot bushing, and maybe resurface flywheel just so you don't have to go through the headache of pulling the tranny again for some time.
