Default Distributor Bushings

I just ordered new internal distributor bushings for my tach driven distributor. I was successful in tapping the old bushings out. My question is how to get the new upper bushing in so that the cutout on the new bushing lines up with the cross gear hole. I know that a press must be used, but if it isn’t lined up perfectly when the press starts it will have to be tapped out and the whole procedure repeated. Anyone out there done this before?

Are you sure the top bushing is bad? most times it's the lower bushing that's worn. I use turned shafts that support the ID and OD when installing bushings in a press.

Well the upper bushing was good until, while removing the lower bushing, a wild blow was struck. Not only was the bushing hit, but also my left thumb will be feeling the effects for a while now!
