Doug Nash (Richmond 5 speed) swap under way
I bought a used Richmond 5 speed with shifter from a fellow forum member and also bought a schattershield and pedal assy to convert my 1980 auto to a manual from another forum member.
So far:
1) Added reverse light swith to shifter which it didn't have.
2)bolted up aluminum flywheel and spec II lutch and cover
3)Bolted up schatter shield but had to open up block plate to fit over ZZ4 1 piece bearing seal
4) Got to use new mig to weld up new trans mount (easier than I thought!)
5) did not have to shorten or cut drive shaft? Local and real parts store (not the only look it up for a matched part or car cleaner type) found me a take a part yoke for $120 from heavy duty truck and then they had their perferred driveline shop install new ujoints in existing drive shaft with front made to suit old driveshaft size and new yoke (two sizes on 1 ujoint) for $40. Thought about cutting for larger u joint on shaft but rear whould still have been small ujoint.
6) cut hole in floor for shifter
7) was going to use hydraulic throw out but Quartermaster unit was too tall to fit between tran bearing mount and pressure plate. Have gone to slave mounted on bracket that will push old throw out arm and use rod end for linkage.
8) dash is out and not pedak assy swap is going to take place and at that time will mount hydraulic clutch master cylinder.
9) Decided to order hydraboost today since swapping out pedals etc..
Hope to finish soon but work travel is hindering progress. Flares need to be finished. Going bolt on flares made from quarter panel flares.
Next is rear suspension when I find a used guldstrand or other race car assy to mod for 80 rear.

Markus,
This has been much slower than I ever expected, but getting there. Not difficult, just time consuming and too many other distractions.

Napa has that combo u joint, think the part number is 324 or 325, can't remember, around 15 bucks. I was faced with the same dilemma...wasn't about to remove the differential yoke, so, bought the u joint.
