Default No start condition......

at different positions of the tilt column. When I first got my car, it would only start in the full tilt position; that stopped working, now it starts fine however in a different position. Common problem? Easy fix?

There is nothing electrical except the horn switch in the top part of the column.

It sounds like you need to adjust the switch position on the bottom of the column. When you turn the key it pushs a rod which actuates the ignition switch on the bottom of the column. The rod may be bent, the switch may need to be adjusted in location, the switch may need to be cleaned or replaced ($20). If you need to work on the switch you need to lower the column for access. You will need to undo the two nuts at the firewall (lower column support) and undo the bolts in the upper column support (under small panel held by three screws. The switch is not easily accessible as it is a anti-theft measure started by GM in 1969.

:iagree:

Check out Jim Shea's EXCELLENT papers at the url below for step by step instructions (with pics) for dropping the column and adjusting the switch:

http://www.corvettefaq.com/listing.asp?group=7

Look for Tilt & Telescoping Column 69-82 Disassembly & Repair Paper #1 & #2 and the corresponding picture docs.

Good Luck!
