What bulb sizes for 79 dash and instruments
Does anyone have the bulb part numbers for the dash and instruments on a 79. I figure I should replace them all while I have the dash out. There are two types, one with a grey socket and one with a blue socket

The instrument bulbs on my 76 are #1895 I would assume your 79 is the same. I replaced my #1895's with #2825's as they were brighter. Hope this helps

The bulb in the gry socket appears to have a longer filament. It is used on the directional indicators

Not all the bulbs are the same, I used 194LL on the gauges and 168 as the lights and at the top you have the light for the temp. lever which is a 168 as well. If you put a bulb that's too hot up on top of the panal it'll melt some of the plastic.

Here is what someone posted for an 81, yours may be the same....
automatic transmission indicator bulb - #161
backup lamp, cornering light - 1156
brake lights, front turn signal - 1157
all the lights in the dash, including indicator lights, turn signal arrows, high beam indicator -- all #194. The sell some long lasting, but nothing brighter. The also list #168 as instrument cluster bulbs, but I have always used 194's.
dome lamp - 214-2
glove compartment lamp - 194
sidemarker lights - 168
headlight - low beam - 5006 / high beam - 5001
courtesy lights - (down by the kick panels) 1445. They also list 206 and 240 for this, so take the old one to compare.
underhood light - 93.
license plate blubs - 168
Hope this helps

DASh light bulb
i have found that a 558 b7lb works best in th “flood light” at the top of the bezel to illuminate the temp controls. He has a special tip like a food light

To answer an earlier question:
#192 is a wedge base, three lux (candlepower) lamp. It's used for general illumination in the cluster and gauge pack and a few other places in the car.
#194 is a wedge base, two lux (candlepower) lamp. Size is identical to a #192 but it has two thirds the light output. It's used in indicators like turn signals, brake warning, generator warning, etc. If you use a #192 in place of a #194 you risk melting the plastic housing and/or lens.
#158 is the same physical size as the above but it has a little lens cast into the tip. It's used in the "lantern" that shines down from the top of the gauge cluster onto the HVAC controls. Many don't even know it's there as even when new and with the dimmer turned up all the way it doesn't put out much light. You can help that situation by slightly enlarging the apertures (one metal the other plastic) that it shines through.

I have never seen a bulb count for the speedo/tach cluster or the gauge cluster, only that they are all 194 style bulbs.
Some say 5 bulbs in the gauges, and 8 for the speedo/tach?

Might have to buy a $1500 Instrument Cluster from one of these aftermarket places like Eckler's since noby knows how many bulbs and what type are in there, LOL.
