Actuator Relay "Filter?" on 79 & Actuator Rebuild
I have been tracing leaks in the vacuum system for the headlights using a troubleshooting guide found at http://www.spectracreations.com/corv...cuum.htm#test. When I got to the actuator relays it said to check the filters at the bottom of the relays. I don't see anything that might be a filter. Does anyone know what they look like? Maybe mine are gone and thats my problem? If you have a picture or can describe them please help.
Also I have one bad Actuator. Can it be rebuilt and how.
Thanks

The filters are just little squares/rectangles of gray foam that sit in the little plastic frame at the bottom of the stem (opposite the can) of the actuator, over the valve opening.
They can be rebuilt, but it's a bit of a PITA since they're not designed to be rebuilt. Someone posted a step by step a couple of years ago. You might try searching the archives.

Thanks JB,
I thought there should be something in those squares but there is not. Do they have anything to do with holding vacuum if they are not there? What can be used to replace them?

Here's a link to the relay rebuild. http://iotech.no/corvette/ Click technical...then headlight relay rebuild. I used a modified (and easier) version of this method 2 years ago and they still work great. The whole idea is to flare the cups at each end of the rubber valve with the O-rings. I just used foam rubber for the filters.

Re: Actuator Relay "Filter?" on 79 & Actuator Rebuild (poppi's79)
I performed this repair on two original relay valves yesterday using the Norweigan site. Total cost to repair was $1.98. Total labor time was 2 hours. Saved $160, not counting shipping costs for new ones.
Thanks, Norway!

Thanks for pointing out that the control actuators had filters, mine were missing. I used a purolator breather filter element from the local auto parts store. All I had to do was cut it to size and reduce the thickness by half.
